My Current Morning Skin Care Routine

Skin care is something that I take very seriously. Growing up, I had terrible acne, to the point where my classmates would make fun of me. So once I found a routine that got my skin under control, I stuck to it for dear life. I’ve been using the same products for about four years now, and my skin has cleared up substantially. There are a few products that I’ve changed around since my last post about this, which is why I decided to make an updated post. My morning and night routine do vary, which is why I’m going to make two separate posts. The nighttime routine will also include the face masks that I’ve been using and loving lately.

Just a little background on my skin, I have sensitive, acne prone, oily skin. I scar very easily, which means most pimples I get leave little purple marks on my face, which can stay for up to two years.

Cleanser
I start out my morning by washing my face with the Purity Made Simple cleanser ($24 at Sephora). It’s really mild, so it doesn’t irritate my skin, but still does a good job at cleaning it. It seems expensive, but Philosophy runs sales all the time, so if you subscribe to their emails, you’ll never pay full price.

Cleansing Device
I swear by my Foreo Luna Mini ($99 at Sephora), it helps to really clear out my pores. Since I started using it, my pores have gotten smaller, I’ve broken out less, and my skin has produced less oil. I cannot rave about this enough. If you’re thinking about getting it, don’t hesitate, because you won’t regret it.

Serum
I’ve recently been testing out a new face oil. It was on sale at Ulta, so I decided to give it a try. It’s the DermaDoctor Kakadu C Serum ($95 at Sephora). The main thing that drew me to this product was that it claims to help clear up acne scars and prevent aging. I haven’t been using it too long, so I can’t comment on it’s effects, but it hasn’t broken me out, and my skin feels good after using it. If I notice anything amazing or terrible about it, I’ll be sure to update!

Acne Serum
After the oil soaks into my skin, I apply the DermaDoctor Ain’t Misbehavin Medicated Acne Control Serum ($48 at Sephora). I’ve been using this for years, and I’m positive that this product is the reason my skin is as clear as it is. Anyone who I’ve recommended this to loves it, because it clears up their skin, too. It seems pricey, but it lasts for about two and a half months, using it morning and night.

Moisturizer
The moisturizer I’ve been using in the mornings is the First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Oil-Free Mattifying Gel Moisturizer ($30 at Sephora). I love this product because it gives my skin the moisture it needs without making it feel greasy or oily. It also helps to keep my skin matte for most of the day. You only need the tiniest amount to cover your entire face.

Eye Cream
I just recently started using an eye cream because I read that starting early helps to prevent aging later in life. The one I’ve been using is the Mario Badescu Hyaluronic Eye Cream ($18 at Ulta). I honestly don’t love this product. When I first started using it, it gave me a terrible allergic reaction, like the entire area around my left eye got red and swollen. I had to take a break for a few days, and then start using it again. What I learned is that less is definitely more, and to only apply it to the bone under your eye, not on the lid. Once I use this up I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing.

Little Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, or certified in anything skin care related. This is just what works for me, so it won’t work for everyone.

  1. I’m intrigued about the Forea vs the Clarisonic. I’ve had the Clarisonic for a while but worry that the brush head gets gross. I might check out the forea as an alternative 🙂
