How to Rock Second Day Hair

I am the queen of not washing my hair. On any given day, there is a 95% chance that my hair did not get washed that morning. To the average eye, however, my hair looks perfectly clean. That’s because I have mastered the art of keeping my hair looking clean and keeping the oil at bay. I put together a list of ways to keep your hair looking great so you can pull off second, third, and fourth day hair.

Don’t Condition Your Scalp
When you do wash you hair, make sure you don’t put conditioner on your scalp. This will prevent it from becoming greasy from the very beginning. Start conditioning at the neck and go down, working on the lengths of your hair, and being sure not to get the scalp.

Avoid Touching Your Hair
When you excessively touch your hair, the oils from your hands transfer onto your hair, making it get greasy faster. To avoid getting unnecessary oils in your hair, only touch your hair when necessary.

Brush Your Hair Often
Make sure to brush your hair at the end of the day and at the start of the next, starting at the scalp and moving down. The brush will help to distribute everything, which will help the oils not to build up, making them less noticeable.

Get a Good Dry Shampoo
Find a dry shampoo that you love and that works for you. My personal favorite is Batiste Hint of Color ($8.99 at Ulta), it’s super reasonably priced, and it’s brown in color so it doesn’t make my hair look white. It also does the best job at keeping it oil and grease free!

Start Using Dry Shampoo Early
This is the most important step in my opinion. Dry shampoo is a great way to keep hair oils at bay, however, it can’t take away oil. If you put dry shampoo in your hair when it’s already extremely oily, the dry shampoo won’t be able to make your hair look clean. But if you put dry shampoo in the night before your second day, before your hair gets oily, the dry shampoo will soak up any oil before it becomes an issue.

  2. Glad to see I’m not the only one using dry shampoo at night! Though I usually use a lot more, distribute it as much as I can, then let the rest distribute itself as I sleep (think restless sleeper).
