All About Undertones: What’s Your Season?

For the next post in my series on undertones, I am going to be talking about the subcategories within each undertone. There are two subcategories for each undertone, so four in total, which are named after the seasons. If you have cool undertones, you can be either a winter or a summer. If you have warm undertones, you can be either spring or an autumn. I’m sure at this point you’re wondering why this is even relevant, but it really is! Knowing your season can help you to find the most complementary colors for you to wear, both in clothes and makeup.

So just a little disclaimer, the only way to truly know your season is to get color swatched by a professional. The tips I’m giving will help you to get a pretty good, if not accurate, idea. I’ve learned these techniques in school, so these are some of the ways that professionals figure this out.

So the first step is to know your undertone. If you don’t know yours, you can check out my last post here, which will help you to figure it out.

To find out your season, the main thing you’re going to look at is your hair and eye colors. One thing to remember is this is your natural hair color, so if you’re someone who dyes their hair, then think about your original color, not your current color.

Cool Tones:
If your hair is blonde and you have light colored eyes, then you are a summer.
If your hair is brunette and you have light colored eyes, you are a summer.
If your hair is brunette and you have dark colored eyes, you are a winter.

Warm Tones:
For warm tones, hair color doesn’t really come into play, so we are going to focus on your eyes instead.
If you have light colored eyes, then you are a spring.
If you have dark colored eyes, then you are a winter.
